Have your heard about the most significant human study to date on resveratrol – and more specifically how it supports the health-enhancing benefits of resveratrol that is helping people with chronic age-related diseases. The link to the study is below.

Let’s talk about resveratrol benefits and the amount of resveratrol mg that can provide a positive benefit for you. Have you heard that drinking a glass of red wine can be healthy? Do you know why exactly this is true?

In 2006, a great deal of buzz formed around the announcement that researchers at the Harvard Medical School and the National Institute on Aging (NIA) found a natural substance in red wine, known as resveratrol, can potentially offset the negative effects of a high-calorie diet and significantly extend lifespan in mice.

In a nation of increased rates of overweight, obesity and life threatening diabetes, finding a natural ingredient – with only side BENEFITS, not side effects – that could impact the devastating effects of eating too much fat and too many calories is very exciting!

There are over 1800 scientific research studies on resveratrol. In addition to working at the cellular level to fight the diseases that age our cells, including cancer, resveratrol reduces inflammation in your body and improves insulin sensitivity. There are heart benefits as well, and remember that inflammation is associated with being one of the causes of many different illnesses.

When all the news started coming out about resveratrol research, supplement companies went to work and started producing resveratrol products. Some came out faster than I was comfortable with knowing. It takes time to develop a product that is safe, good quality, and will be absorbed and utilized in your body the best. I don’t pretend to understand the science behind making a product but I do know that I have standards for the nutrition I will put in my body.

Let’s take a look at the Shaklee brand of resveratrol, VIVIX, and what sets it apart from another brand. Shaklee rarely makes a product with only one ingredient – in fact I don’t know of any at all. One Shaklee difference is to make ‘blends’ of ingredients. And the ingredients are specially chosen when they can be proven to work together to produce an effect that is better than the single ingredient: it’s called working ’synergistically’ together.

resveratrol mg

Shaklee does the research – their own research – and they considered the fact that resveratrol impacts three different (major) mechanisms of cellular aging. What they decided to do was add a patent pending polyphenol blend to their resveratrol, including a nutrient that is backed by over 1200 published studies.

So when Shaklee combined their high quality source of resveratrol to the polyphenol blend they developed, it made the resveratrol blend 10 times more effective than resveratrol alone. Shaklee invested years of research to locate and isolate the unique blend of potent plant phytochemicals that could protect and repair cellular DNA, and address the factors that make our cells age.

Vivix is made with the purest and most potent natural resveratrol available and contains a unique profile of polyphenols which have been shown to address mechanisms of cellular aging in several laboratory tests. Vivix ingredients combat these key mechanisms by; repairing cellular DNA, positively impacting genetic regulators to help turn down aging, and promoting mitochondrial biogenesis to increase power production within cells.

Published in Nature, the Harvard Medical School and NIA report suggests that resveratrol could help offset some of the negative impacts of a high-calorie diet in mice. The researchers found that resveratrol extended the lifespan of mice and appeared to blunt some of the effects of aging.

Too tired to exercise? In a study published this month (see News about Resveratrol link below to learn about the study) resveratrol helped people increase their energy and lower their blood pressure and triglycerides as well as balance blood sugar levels. The research around resveratrol is very exciting, and we have a natural supplement available that helps us not only FIGHT AGING and the illnesses and diseases that come with it, but also to FEEL BETTER right now.

This product goes far beyond resveratrol in the fight against cellular aging. A 30-day supply delivers the equivalent amount of resveratrol found in 3,000 glasses of red wine and has actually been shown in laboratory studies to be ten times more powerful than resveratrol alone at slowing one of the key mechanisms of cellular aging. Vivix is a cellular anti-aging tonic, and the first all-natural dietary supplement that combines resveratrol with a patent-pending plant extract to fight cellular aging.

When you buy Shaklee products you take away any risks for a couple of reasons: 1) All Shaklee products are 100% guaranteed – either you are happy with the product and it is working for you and giving you healthy results or you get your money back; and 2) There aren’t any side effects to natural nutrition supplements – only side benefits. Your body can heal and can build better health if you give it the right nutrients.

Shaklee takes the guesswork away from finding these right nutrients. They do the years of study and research, the thousands of quality checks to make sure they are using the safest AND most effective ingredients (remember Shaklee must deliver you those results!), patented delivery systems (other companies don’t have) that make sure the nutrients get to the right part of the body at just the right time during the digestive process in order to be released and absorbed to work most effectively in your body, and last but not least – ongoing clinical studies to make sure the products keep working.

The recommended serving of Vivix is one teaspoon a day, taken preferably with breakfast or lunch. Vivix is all natural without artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors or added preservatives and is exclusively available through Shaklee Independent Distributors. Order your Vivix, visit:

PITTSBURGH STEELERS neurosurgeon Dr. Joseph Maroon, author of The Longevity Factor, discusses living a longer and healthier life. It’s not about simply living to an older age, it is about fighting the diseases of aging and keeping our bodies younger.

Don’t we all want to have great quality of life? Live healthy and even longer if we can feel good and stay active?

Scientists have been studying many years a group of natural substances – including resveratrol – that can help activate specific genes in the human body that promote living longer and healthier.

Dr. Maroon wrote The Longevity Factor to look at the fascinating science behind the study of aging – that can have a real impact on our lives. It has taken years of study to learn about a group of natural substances – including resveratrol – that can help activate specific genes in the human body that promote living longer AND healthier. And then it took more time to learn how to isolate resveratrol and concentrate it into a supplement.

As soon as that happened, almost 200 products flooded the market. Since food supplements are not regulated by the FDA, it is hard to determine which work better or if they are formulated in a way that will make a difference at all.

We have talked before how you must do your own homework on choosing a brand. Dr. Maroon will only recommend pharmaceutical grade supplements to his patients because he can be assured of the quality and efficacy.

Shaklee partnered with Harvard University scientists to develop Vivix, a unique anti-aging supplement with resveratrol and polyphenols from the (super) muscadine grape. It wasn’t one of the first resveratrol products on the market – it took significant time get it right!

Only pharmaceutical grade brands are mentioned in his book and Dr. Maroon dedicates most of page 193 to Vivix: “There is growing evidence that a combination of resveratrol and other potent polyphenols might provide improved health benefits due to the synergistic properties of different polyphenols from different plant sources. Shaklee Corporation, a direct selling nutrition company has recently released a product called Vivix, which is described as a cellular anti-aging tonic. It contains a multi-source polyphenol blend.

In conversations with the company, they state that the blend includes 100 mg of 98 percent pure resveratrol from Polygonum cuspidatum long with a proprietary extract derived from the fresh pomace of muscadine grapes (Vitis rotundifolia) The company recommends 5ml per day of Vivix, which they state is equivalent to the abount of resveratrol found in 100 glasses of red pinot noir red wine.

The muscadine polyphenols in this blended product along with the added resveratrol, European elderberry extract, and purple carrot extract will increase the total overall polyphenol content of this product. A month’s supply will cost a member $85.00.

In Shaklee’s accompanying literature for Vivix, they state that the Vivix ingredients were shown in a laboratory study to be 10 times more powerful in slowing a key mechanism of aging than resveratrol alone. No specific studies are listed but here they appear to be recognizing that resveratrol may work better in people as a mixture of complementary polyphenols. They also have focused on leveraging the benefits of the muscadine grape in their product.”

Dr. Maroon also discusses calorie restriction that is associated with resveratrol and inflammation that is at the root of so many illnesses and disease. He states in the book that some resveratrol products contain polyphenols from the muscadine grape to further enhance resveratrol to help with inflammation (VIVIX!).

I was especially impressed that Dr. Maroon recommends the combination of pharmaceutical grade fish oil and resveratrol almost exclusively to his patients with pain and inflammation. That is right in line with what Dr. Shaklee believed: the body can heal itself – with nature. Natural supplements, made as close as the way you would find them in nature as possible are powerful for healing.

On page 292, Shaklee OmegaGuard is listed as a pharmaceutical grade Fish Oil supplement worthy of recommendation.

Dr. David Maroon is a distinguished surgeon, and noted professor and Heindl Scholar in Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is a lifelong athlete and has competed in more than fifty triathlons including 3 Hawaiian Ironman Championship competitions.

This past month I did a little test on a product called VIVIX, a liquid resveratrol product that I have been taking daily for almost two years now. I stopped taking Vivix for about three weeks.

Resveratrol is made from red wine and its purpose is to help you live longer by making your cells healthier to fight the diseases of aging. Right now it is available in a natural supplement form, though there is aggressive research being done to make a pharmaceutical resveratrol form.

The serving size of Vivix (the brand I use) is only 1 teaspoon per day and it is equal to the resveratrol in 100 glasses of red wine. That’s because Shaklee combines resveratrol with polyphenols from the ’super’ muscadine grape and the combination is 10 times more powerful than resveratrol alone.

Update: November, 2011. More proof about the value of resveratrol. Learn why this doctor is going to start taking a resveratrol supplement right away. (See special offer of FREE VIVIX at the bottom of this article.)

Resveratrol, metabolism and your cells.

I don’t know about you but for me there are things that happen in terms of the way you feel or something hurting that you tend to ‘put up with’ instead of addressing right away. These are things that affect your quality of life.

Three things that I re-discovered last week when I started taking Vivix again were the same 3 things that I liked about it when I first started using it. Now I have a new appreciation for these things that I don’t have to live without. We don’t have to ‘put up’ with anything less than feeling great everyday!

Alert

Almost 2 years ago this summer I was taking my youngest daughter to visit colleges. Most were 2 – 3 hours driving distance away and something that has affected my driving for almost as long as I can remember, and especially in the summer (not sure if it is the heat or what because we are inside an air conditioned vehicle), is that I want to take a nap. As soon as we get on the road, I feel tired.

What was different during those trips is that I wasn’t tired. Not at all. They were long drives to the destination, a presentation to sit through and then a tour of the school. We usually had a bite to eat and then back on the road. Once we visited two schools in one day. It hit me about half way through the trips that I was not tired at all driving, or during any of the events. I was alert and focused throughout the day. This was the same when I was home. Every day there is this alertness and ability to focus better that comes along with taking Vivix.

Energy

I won’t call the energy I get from Vivix a burst of energy. And I do take my Cinch Protein Shake every morning that contributes to the balanced energy I get all the way till lunch. Together, they give me a constant feeling of energy to go from morning till night and not feel tired.

I felt this within a week of starting Vivix. Now, for almost two years, I have grown accustomed to feeling good. Feeling alert, focused and having enough energy to last all day long. So why would I need to ‘test’ this. For starters I sold my whole supply of Vivix before I realized I was at the end of my own bottle (not sure how I let that happen). It was going to be close to a week until my new supply would come and by that time I thought why not conduct this personal little test and stop my Vivix for a month – see if I noticed any difference. Well, I only lasted 3 weeks.

Sleep

Sleep is one of the reasons I wanted to start taking resveratrol again. Sleeping better and feeling very rested when I woke up is another benefit I discovered within a couple of weeks after taking Vivix when it was first introduced on 8-8-08. And it is something that I have come to expect.

This month, during my test, I could tell a difference. I have always been a good sleeper but I can’t say that I always felt rested when I woke up. This month not only did I have a few nights that I didn’t sleep well, which may have been unrelated, I didn’t feel as rested. I like that feeling of waking up, feeling good, and ready for a full day!

Conclusion

I don’t think that I will be doing more Vivix testing anytime soon, at least not in regard to pulling it out of my food supplement regimen. I believe in it too much and I am getting such great results. Why would I want to mess with that?

And the three I mentioned may not be the main benefits associated with resveratrol. It does a lot on the inside that we don’t see and won’t feel either. It is working at the cellular level to fight the diseases of aging while also giving us better quality of life. Still, these benefits that I have noticed are benefits lots of people notice and it is good to ‘feel’ some of the benefits.

Another thing that will appeal to lots of us is looking younger than our age. When resveratrol is hard at work keeping us younger, it is helping us look better. It is not a miracle worker, or surgery, but if you take it faithfully (EVERY DAY) I really believe that people are going to notice something different about you!

So what are you waiting for? Do you want to feel younger? Do you want to live longer? (with a great quality of life of course!) I know that I do!

Destroy Pancreatic Cancer Cells. Counter the effects of aging on our Hearts. Our Bones. Our Eyes. And Our Muscles. Can resveratrol make a difference? Billions of dollars are being spent right now studying resveratrol and how this natural antioxidant found in grapes skins and red wine can help us prevent the diseases of aging, and live longer, better quality lives. Most of this money is focused on a pharmaceutical product that is at best probably 5 years away. We do have a natural resveratrol supplement, a cellular anti-aging tonic, available right now and what a head start we can have in the new exciting world of resveratrol.

In 2008, the University of Rochester released the results of a study on resveratrol and how it can help destroy pancreatic cancer cells. We talked before about how resveratrol can impact the key mechanisms of aging, one of these key mechanisms of aging being mitochondria (the cell’s core energy source) in the cells. In the study, resveratrol was found to cripple the function of these cancer producing cells.

Study results posted on http://www.bio-medicine.org/biology-news-1/Mounting-evidence-shows-red-wine-antioxidant-kills-cancer-2618-1/ included this statement: “The findings, published July 3, 2008, in Cell Metabolism, may increase interest in resveratrol as a possible intervention for age-related declines, said NIA scientists. The authors emphasized, however, that their findings are based on research in mice, not in humans, and have no immediate and direct application to people, whose health is influenced by a variety of factors beyond those which may be represented in the animal models.”

In July, 2008, A Harvard University study conducted and supported in part by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health, found that resveratrol slows age-related deterioration and functional decline of mice on a standard diet. This study is a follow-up to 2006 findings that resveratrol improves health and longevity of overweight, aged mice.

A review of the study that was posted on http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080703120402.htm. I found the following very interesting and potentially a huge help for so many folks: “A major finding of the study reported today is that resveratrol prevented age-related and obesity-related cardiovascular functional decline in the mice as determined by several parameters. Total cholesterol was significantly reduced in 22-month-old non-obese mice after 10 months of resveratrol treatment, although triglyceride levels had only a slight, non-significant trend toward a decrease. Further, the aortas of 18-month-old obese and non-obese mice treated with resveratrol functioned significantly better than untreated mice. Resveratrol also moderated inflammation in the heart.”

There have been many scientific research studies on resveratrol, and they are ongoing. In addition, we have hundreds of resveratrol products that have been put on the market. The problem is that many (maybe most) are not manufactured by companies that do their own research on resveratrol, nor are they a formulation that will actually be assimilated by the body and be able to produce desired results without unwanted side effects. For example, on such side effect is a digestive issue with some resveratrol products. This is due to a lower quality product and an ingredient source that is not pure.

Our brand has spent years of their own research on resveratrol, and partnered with the world’s foremost anti-aging scientist who works for Harvard University, to develop a unique resveratrol blend that also includes polyphenols from a super grape. This muscadine super grape has an extra chromosome that no other grape has, and that is associated with anti-aging. The combination, similar to many of this brand’s products that are complexes, or blends of synergistic ingredients, enhances the performance of all ingredients.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all my friends, loyal readers, and first time visitors (please come back!).

Valentine’s Day is the traditional day of love where we think about and plan something special that we will do for our special someone. And then there are our mothers, fathers, children, grandparents, a special aunt or uncle, special friends.. the list goes on.. we may want to express our love for more than one person for sure.

For me, Vivix is now associated with a gift of love. First, since 8-8-08 when Vivix was introduced, my husband and I have been taking our teaspoon per day with the goal to keep the diseases of aging far away from us, and have been experiencing some benefits already in the form of weight management, more alert and focused all day, better joint function, great sleep at night, and overall feeling of well-being in what has become for many a very stressful time during this period of economic disaster and uncertainty. We think it makes a perfect Valentine’s Day gift to each other to order next month’s supply!

I gave a few boxes of Vivix to my parents at Christmas because I want them to stay healthy and to ‘be around’ for many, many years to come! At 80 and 74, it seemed like a perfect gift to give them to help them with some present health challenges and prevent other diseases of aging like diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Guess what, for Valentine’s Day, another box is going their way! My father is now calling it his ‘Fountain of Youth’.. don’t we all want a Fountain of Youth* at 80 years of age?

****As a special gift to you.. for taking the time to read my post (thanks very much), I would like to give everyone who orders their own Fountain of Youth* box of VIVIX today, a special gift. I will send you a tube of another unique product from this brand that folks have been using from ‘head to toe’ for many, many years. It is our special formulation multi-purpose cream and is one of the favorite products of the brand. For relief from all kinds of skin discomforts (truly from head to toe and every place in between), this mentholated cream is absolutely awesome!****

(I will get confirmation of your order from Shaklee and personally mail your gift to you. It must be ordered on 2-14-09)

*Fountain of Youth in this article is simply a personal testimony and not to be associated with any claims on behalf of myself or the manufacturer.
