Alfalfa: Nature’s Rich Nutrient

nutrient rich alfalfa

When I was first introduced to Alfalfa, I remember hearing about the roots of the plant and how they are very deep and pick up nutrients that we don’t get in much of our food or other supplements.  Its tap root reaches down as deep as 20 feet, searching out nutrients and minerals from deposits in the soil, while its leaves gather large amounts of chlorophyll through the natural process of photosynthesis.

I also remember being impressed with all the benefits of all-natural alfalfa. You may be familiar with popular uses of alfalfa, like for stomach problems or to help allergies and asthma. Or maybe you or someone you know uses alfalfa to help with arthritis pain.

You know how you take certain nutrients to get specific benefits, such as Vitamin C for your immune system or body tissue repair or calcium for healthy bones. Well, alfalfa contains many of these nutrients.

Because alfalfa contains all of these nutrients, you might think it is like a multi-vitamin. While it is not formulated like a multi-vitamin in supplement form, it is very nutrient rich.

My study of Alfalfa found it dating back to the 6th century, used in Chinese medicine for healthy kidneys. It held a valued place in ancient herbal traditions of India and Spain as well.

Healers long ago learned about the benefits of alfalfa through observation and today we have much of the same confirmed with our scientific research. It is one of the most complete and nutritionally rich foods.

Alfalfa is also fed to horses and livestock to build strength. I always liked the way alfalfa is referred to as “the father of all foods.”

The reason alfalfa became popular as a supplement is because it has so many benefits for good health. It also helps increase your alkaline levels, helping to balance acidity. Your body is healthier when it is in more of an alkaline state.

Research continues to discover new benefits of consuming alfalfa and there are more suggested than are listed above. I invite you to do your homework and learn more about alfalfa.

Let’s take a look at Shaklee Alfalfa. It is a complex like most all Shaklee products. That’s because nutrients with similar benefits work better together than they do on their own. It’s called the synergistic effect.

Alfalfa Complex from Shaklee was originally developed by Dr. Shaklee himself and uses only the finest alfalfa that is grown in California and ensures that it contains maximum levels of nutrients and vitamin and no fungicides, bactericides, synthetic hormones, growth regulators, or chemicals.

At harvest, the alfalfa plants are cured in the open air – the natural, old-fashioned way. Once dried, the alfalfa is ready to be “milled.” The end product is a fine, green colored alfalfa “flour” which then must not only measure up to Shaklee’s stringent laboratory standards, but also go through the tableting process where each batch is checked to ensure uniformity of ingredients.

There is 300 mg of calcium per serving and that is about equal to a glass of milk. The supplement will not provide the full daily recommendations of all the vitamins and minerals but it’s still a powerful supplement.

Shaklee Alfalfa Complex is also gluten free, kosher and has not artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors or preservatives. It is available in  330 and 700 tablet bottles.  To learn more about this nutrient rich supplement, visit:  Alfalfa.
