Now there are all kinds of products on the market that will get those stains out. However, many are not safe for you, your children, your home or our planet. Instead of chlorine, why not choose the natural enzymes and active oxygen – both very safe- to re-brighten laundry, de-stain, and lots more.

This chlorine-free stain remover is a very effective alternative choice to chlorine bleach. It is color safe and can be used with any washable fabric.

This powerful stain remover will remove stubborn stains on surfaces like carpet, upholstery, kitchen, and bath surfaces as well. It effectively cleans outdoor patio furniture.

Like all products from this brand, the stain remover is very concentrated so first, you only need to use a very small amoung, and second it will last a long long time. I have personally used this product on my laundry, for cleaning my carpets, the inside of my car and other projects. It is amazing how well it works and there is not an unpleasant smell which makes it comfortable to use. I don’t know about you but I don’t like to use a product that I can’t breathe around.

There are some credentials you can be proud to represent while using this product and they include: natural, biodegradable, phosphate-free and bleach-free.

It comes in a handy resealable pouch with a small scoop, and there is also a canister available that holds the contents of a pouch.

Toxins for You to Investigate

If you have not yet read the last post, please read it first as this will expand upon that information.

To find out what’s lurking on your shelves, go to the National Institutes of Health Library of Medicine Household Products Database. You can search almost any brand of cleaner you use, find out what’s in it, and uncover its links to health effects. Or search by chemical ingredients (see list below for some examples) and discover what brands contain it.

The information may shock you. It most probably WILL shock you.

Chemical ingredients to look out for:

Sodium Hydroxide

Hydrochloric acid

Butyl cellosolve (2-Butoxyethanol)

Formaldehyde

Bleach (sodium hypochlorite)

Ammonia

Sulfamic Acid

Petroleum distillates

Sulfuric acid

Lye (potassium hydroxide)

Morpholine

So, what can you do? Here are four suggestions:

1) Get educated by visiting the link above and getting the information on the products you currently use.

2) Get rid of all the nasties from your home. Please recycle or dispose of these items in an environmentally friendly way.

3) Welcome into your home safer choices- Cleaning products that are truly cleaner, either natural choices you find in your home or green cleaning, biodegradable choices that do not contain the harmful toxins and chemicals found in most store brands.

Fresh air. Open your windows to reduce indoor air pollution.

Essential oils. Use these instead of air fresheners.

Plants. Besides being nice to look at, they can absorb harmful gases and help clean the air.

Organic bedding. Avoid standard bedding treated with chemicals.

Floors made of recycled and renewable resources.

Healthier paint. That new paint smell can be as nasty as it smells. Choose low VOC paint instead.

4) Clean up our collective home

Make the earth healthier for all of us who call it home by using these things in yours:

Compact fluorescent lighting. They last a whole lot longer.

Energy Star-rated appliances. Save money and energy.

A low-flush toilet. Replace the largest user of water in your house. Ultra low flushers cut water use by one-fifth.

Low-flow showerheads. Same pressure. Less water.

Your flicker finger. Turn off lights and appliances when you’re not using them.

Gray water system. Install one to recycle used household water for your lawn.

Tankless water heater. Save money, energy, and space in the broom closet. Use it to store your new Clean Starter Kit!! (Don’t worry, it is not that big!!)

So there’s enough information to get you started. Please contact me for more information and look for future posts. There is lots of information to share and my job to get the word out. Thanks for reading!

My Press Release on Toxins.

The Real Dirt on Clean

The theme of our mission to educate people about the toxins in their home is ‘The Real Dirt on Clean’. Many people don’t realize exactly what is in many of the popular brand personal care products and cleaning products that are in many homes. People use these products every day and generally feel that if a product is on a store shelf, it is safe. Unfortunately this is not true.

Here is one interesting fact. When you get that good, healthy feeling after just cleaning your house, it spoils the effort to find out that you have really just made your home dirtier.

The thing is, there are these chemicals and toxins in everyday cleaning products, and by using the products to clean, you are bringing them onto the surfaces of your house, into the air, and ultimately they are absorbed into your family’s bodies. Just as we would not let our kids play with toxic chemicals, we wouldn’t want a baby to crawl over a floor that’s just been wiped with them. They are more dangerous than the juice that was just there on the floor!

So, how dangerous are these toxins?

Over 90% of poison exposures happen at home.

Common bleach is the #1 household chemical involved in poisoning.

Organic pollutants, found in many common cleaners and even air fresheners, are 2 to 5 times higher inside your home than out.

A person who spends 15 minutes cleaning scale off shower walls could inhale three times the “acute one-hour exposure limit” for glycol ether-containing products set by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.

Common cleaners give off fumes that have been linked to increasing the risk of y our kids developing asthma, the most common serious chronic childhood disease.

1 in 13 school-aged children has asthma. Rates in children under five have increased more than 160% from 1980-1994.

Children are highly vulnerable to chemical toxicants. Pound for pound of body weight, children drink more water, eat more food, and breathe more air than adults to any toxicants that are present in water, food or air.

If your home is anything like the average U.S. home, you generate more than 20 pounds of household hazardous waste each year (the EPA designates toilet cleaners, tub and tile cleaners, oven cleaners, and bleach as hazardous waste).

Green Cleaning is Easy

Company owners have their own story to tell, and this comes right from the recap of Oprah’s ‘Green’ Show that aired this past Friday – in time for Earth Day 2007.

For years, the Barnett family lived like most Americans. Then, in 2004, they got an unexpected wake-up call that changed the way they clean their home and treat the environment.

Sloan and Roger say they began to notice their son Spencer’s health problems when he was just 3 years old. At first, Sloan says her son coughed continuously. One day his heart was racing, so she rushed him to the emergency room.

“I don’t think we knew whether we were going to lose him or not,” Roger says. “They told us that he had a respiratory issue. They thought he might be developing asthma.”

Sloan says she began researching chemicals that can irritate the lungs and found them in a startling location…inside her home. According to a physician, some household products—like bathroom cleaners, disinfectants, floor cleaners and oven cleaners—contain toxic chemicals that can trigger an asthma attack.

As soon as the Barnetts learned that cleaning products can be hazardous to their health, Sloan says they cleaned out their cabinets and made their home a place where everyone could breathe easier.

After throwing out common household cleaners, Roger discovered the Shakle* Corporation, a company that had been producing natural cleaning products for 50 years.

Sloan and Roger began using these eco-friendly cleaners inside their house. “We thought they worked terrifically,” Roger says. “The great news is that Spencer has never had to go back to the hospital since we switched our products and that really speaks it all for us.”

The Barnetts liked the products so much, they bought the company! Now, Sloan says she tries to live in a way that’s responsible to the health of her children and to the health of the planet.

Real clean doesn’t have a ’smell’.

Shakle* products, which include everything from dryer sheets to stain removers, are made from pure ingredients and won’t leave your house smelling like a lemon tree. “Clean, real clean, doesn’t have a smell,” Sloan says. “Real clean is good for our children, good for our families.”

To help other families go green, the Barnetts are giving every member of Oprah’s audience a Healthy Home Pack starter kit, which includes more than a dozen different products, and they’re offering viewers a special 33% discount for one month! You can also get a 15% discount on other Shaklee products.

Oprah says she’s a big fan of Shakle*’s H2 Organic Super Concentrated Cleaner. “Use a couple of drops of this, and it’s amazing,” she says. “You can clean the windows. You can clean the counters. … You can clean everything!”

There were lots of environmentally friendly ideas discussed on the Oprah Green show. It was very informative and quite interesting. There are a lot of things, even little things, that we can do to make a difference. When lots and lots of people make these changes, it adds up to massive difference!

To make your chores even more environmentally friendly, it was suggested to use microfiber cloths (part of the Get Cleaner line) to apply the products to your furniture, counters and sinks. These cleaning cloths are machine washable and recyclable!

In some areas of the country, the air quality inside the home is twice as dangerous as the air outside the home, according to the EPA. “The reason is because of, in part, cleaning products, the paints that we have on our walls, varnishes on our furniture, the formaldehydes and glues in our carpet,” Simran (a guest on the Oprah Green show) says. “You’re creating this little chemical cocktail you’re breathing in all the time.”

The products in the Healthy Home Pack come with instructions for mixing which is very easy and of course safe to do. We have all heard horror stories of mixing other brand cleaners ‘gone bad’. With these products, you mix the concentrate with water and you are done. Spray bottles are available and look and work great! You are saving product packaging from filling up the landfills, and you are saving cost of shipping and even manufacturing by adding your own water!

Numbers for the full size Get Cleaner Starter Kit are pretty amazing. The retail price is $154.45 and the products inside are the equivalent of over $3,400.00 worth of other brand products. Plus the company went to the expense of testing them against other popular brands, and every time THIS BRAND tested as well or BETTER than the competition (which are the unsafer alternative).

Bottom line, you are safer and healthier with Green products. Your home is safer and healthier. The planet is safer and healthier. A Win-Win-Win situation!

Spring Clean with Best Green Products

So are you thinking about Spring Cleaning?

Want to Spring Clean GREEN? Want to Spring Clean SAFE? Want to Spring Clean Healthier? Want to Spring Clean Economically? Want to Spring Clean Effectively?

The VERY BEST All-Purpose Cleaner has been around for 50 Years. This past year it was made even more Concentrated than it already was, and also became a Streak-Free formula! It replaces many household cleaners, and contains NO ammonia fumes, NO acids, NO alkalis, and NO Kerosene or solvent.

This formula is a highly concentrated, extremely effective, non-toxic, biodegradable, earth-friendly cleaner. Leaves an anti-magnetic surface so dust and dirt are not attracted to the surface. Out-performs other cleaners and more economical. One pint makes 48 gallons of a general cleaning solution for less than 22 cents a gallon. It is a pH balanced cleaner, and contains no formaldehyde. Only 2 ounces makes the equivalent of 728 bottles of Windex for less than one cent a bottle!

There are hundreds of uses for this All-Purpose “Wonder” Cleaner. Over the next 2 posts we will discuss about 30 of them.

For (non-streak) window cleaner, you add ONLY 2 DROPS to a clean, 16 oz. spray bottle and fill with water. Compare this cost of less than one cent to the cost of a bottle of Windex.

As a surface cleaner for counter tops, appliances, bathroom fixtures, walls, finger prints, etc, mix 1/4 teaspoon in a 16 oz. spray bottle and fill with water. Compare 3.5 cents to the price of another brand of spray cleaner.

For walls, ceilings, floors, including hardwood floors, mix 2 teaspoons per gallon of water.

Wash fresh fruits and vegetables – this is one of my favorite uses. A small spray bottle sits on our sink and is used throughout the day for this purpose. It will remove residue of sprays, waxes and dirt. Rinse well.

Hand wash delicate fabrics with only 1/2 tsp per basin of water.

Fertilize African Violets and other houseplants with two drops per gallon of water.

Wallpaper Remover (this is a favorite of many) with 1 tbsp per gallon of water. Sponge on to the wallpaper soaking thoroughly. Scrape or peel off wallpaper (does not work with vinyls).

Clean Aquariums with 1/2 tsp per quart of water. Clean coral, rocks, and entire aquarium with solution and rinse thoroughly before refilling.

Wash artificial flowers with 1 tsp per gallon of water. Dip flowers and swish gently.

Chewing gum removal from fabric, carpet and hair by applying full strength. Work into the gum, and scrape off with knife blade.

Bathe your baby by gently cleaning baby’s skin with 1/4 tsp in bath water. There is not irritation to baby’s skin and no bathtub ring.

Camping. The camper’s friendly cleaner. Apply full strength to outside of pans before putting over the fire and fire will not blacken the pans. Washes up great. Use 1/2 tsp in basin to wash dishes.

Wash car with 1 tbsp in a bucket of water. Also, if you wash the car on your lawn, it will be very beneficial to it because it makes Water more permeable to the soil. Effective for cleaning engines. Will not affect paint, gaskets, or insulating material. Best results can be achieved when the engine is hot for fastest drying of the ignition system. Use 1/4 tsp per pint of water and spray on battery terminals, let soak for 2 minutes and clean with a wire brush. use 1 tsp in radiator full of water/antifreeze to prevent rust.
